Artist | Wang Yuan-wen

Artist Introduction: Born in Tainan, Taiwan in 1985, Wang Yuan-wen continuously engaged in various forms of artistic creation throughout her upbringing, including sketching, watercolor, sculpture, and performance art. From realism to illustration and then to abstraction, she constantly sought self-discovery and liberation from constraints, integrating her life experiences. After graduating from National Taiwan University of Arts, she lived and created in Barcelona, Spain, starting in 2008. In 2010, she began developing abstract painting. In 2017, she graduated from the University of Barcelona with a master's degree in Contemporary Art Creation, and has since participated in numerous exhibitions and art events.

For Wang Yuan-wen, painting is a record of her inner life experiences, encompassing various facets of her journey from her hometown to a foreign land. In her recent paintings, one can observe characteristics of abstract expressionism and elements of Eastern ink painting. Calligraphy-like black brushstrokes traverse the canvas, while dynamic and static color blocks and strokes intertwine to outline the painting's mood, seemingly documenting her personal life experiences and inner emotional landscape.

MAYFLIES OF THE UNIVERSE

Concept: In her abstract paintings, one image always alludes to another, complementing each other. Hard and soft, void and substance, movement and stillness combine to form the artist's vocabulary. She focuses her creative energy on the process, a natural creation that does not involve drafts to reach the final work, expressing a current state, an artistic conception, an emotion. She attempts to discover the meaning of the image itself through the creative process and to become aware of the deep personal inner self that is translated: this is a spiritual emptying that occurs on the canvas, followed by mutual meditation between the work and the viewer.

In this series of paintings, the artist experiments with color inversion, using her previous black blocks and brushstrokes for the background, transforming hard and soft, and reversing the relationship between void and substance. Energy is released and colors are displayed in the darkness. Various movements, collisions, combinations, and separations resemble the diverse ecological forms in the deep sea, and also us, the mayflies of the universe, traveling, meeting, and parting in space.

TIME AND SPACE LOVE AND SEX

Creative Concept: "Blood flows through life, blood-devouring years of life." Many things in life do not go our way. At every moment, people meet us, walk with us, and leave us. No matter how lonely we are, we must stay strong and move forward. While we should be grateful for enriching our lives, we should also resolutely look ahead. The past belongs only to yesterday, but we must always live in today.

Only after all time has been betrayed and wasted, can we pick out a certain period from our memories, dust off the accumulated grime, and marvel at how it was the best of times. Many regrets in life are, in fact, self-inflicted. What once felt like an insurmountable hurdle, when looked back upon a few years later... was not a big deal at all. Many things cannot be obtained just by wanting them, and many things cannot be done just by wanting to do them. Looking back is not entirely meaningless, but do not get lost in it. There is still much beauty awaiting in the future.

Artist | Chen Lixin

Artist Introduction: Chen Lixin, born in Taipei in 1994, studied painting from junior high school through university, exploring a wide range of mediums including oil painting, ink wash, Nihonga, and pastels. After graduation, she participated in art fairs around the world and traveled across Southeast Asia and Europe for sketching. Her Western painting concepts transitioned fluidly and freely, resulting in a unique style.

Her painting themes primarily feature skies, seascapes, and natural plants, depicting architectural styles from various regions. The Renaissance deified humanity, while Romanticism deified landscapes. Chen Lixin loves natural scenery; regardless of the medium, her creative subjects consistently celebrate nature. In her landscape paintings, she grandly captures vast seascapes and magnificent sky light, while meticulously detailing tiny glimmers of light piercing through clouds and the myriad stars at night. In these turbulent times, she hopes to return to the simplicity of nature, or perhaps to gain a clearer perspective on her own insignificance.

A BLOOM THAT DOES NOT EASILY FADE

THE ETERNAL BLOOM

Creative Concept: Rather than planting or receiving flowers, I prefer to paint them myself, building them from scratch, and freezing their moment in time. Flowers come in various forms, blooming profusely yet briefly. Even the longest-lasting flower cannot outlive its stem and leaves. To escape the allure of flowers and the sadness of their inevitable wilting, one must understand plant growth and nature's cycle. Rooting, growing tall, flowering, bearing fruit, decaying, decomposing... Time is an endless, ever-flowing river, and life takes temporary refuge upon it.

Rational people always cherish time, recognizing its limitations. If time is finite, and gatherings and partings are predetermined, what compels individuals to seek meaning in their limited lives? When there is something you are willing to risk and strive for, you are hoping for it to be lasting, eternal, or even everlasting. This hope gives you the strength to resist the notion that "all things eventually end." As you journey towards life's conclusion, you try to create events that will outlive you. This process, understandably, will not always be comfortable, but your solitude and pain will be a bloom that does not easily fade. To resist and rebel for what you deeply love is the hope and blessing I hide within these flowers.

Artist | Sun Zhuanzi

Artist's Profile: Sun Zhuanzi, born Sun Huizhi in 1987 in Jiaoxi, Yilan, Taiwan. He graduated from Fuxing Senior High School of Commerce and Arts, and in 2008, he earned a degree in Interior Design from the Department of Architecture at Kao Yuan University. In 2012, he obtained a master's degree from the Graduate Institute of Applied Design at Shu-Te University. He has worked as a graphic designer for a gallery, a club instructor at Longhua Junior High School, a homeroom teacher in the Fine Arts Department of Zhonghua Arts School, and a part-time and industry lecturer in the Department of Industrial Design and the Department of Fashion Design at Tungfang Design University. Currently, he focuses on mural creation and painting instruction in Kaohsiung, Taiwan.

HIDDEN IN ETERNAL LIFE

Creative Concept: This piece continues the themes of the original work "Hidden in Eternal Life." Through the form of a "fish" and its shifting movements, it transforms emotional symbols to point towards "humanity," addressing the journey from birth to old age, various life experiences, the practice of contemplating the unknown, and the subsequent creation of new works. The theme of the artwork uses the free form of the fish to express the "heart's" continuous extension through time and space, remaining unchanged from ancient times to the present. Concept: The artwork draws from personal life experiences. This time, artist Huang Shih-Lun chose the starry sky above the clouds as his creative theme, naming it "Stars." A meteor streaks across the dark night, and like a grain of sand, the vast starry sky is encapsulated within the watch. As American author Ursula K. Le Guin once said, "Only in silence the word, only in darkness the light, only in dying life: bright the hawk's flight on the empty sky."

Artist | Lucas

Artist Introduction: Born in Changhua in 1986, Lucas graduated from Overseas Chinese Institute of Technology with a degree in Applied English. During his student days, he loved to paint. His notebooks were filled not with notes, but with humorous doodles, finding immense joy in the creative process. His experiences living abroad enriched his life values. While working in Mexico, he experienced the passionate and uninhibited character of Mexicans and their joy in living in the present. While working in Australia, he felt the free and unconstrained social atmosphere, gaining effective control over his time and the autonomy to choose what he wanted to do.

Returning to Taiwan with a new outlook on life, he wanted to live a better life. By chance, wanting to hang a painting in his room, he encountered alcohol ink, a new medium. He was immediately deeply attracted by the blending effect of the alcohol ink, and resolutely picked up his paintbrush again, self-learning alcohol ink creation, igniting his artistic soul, and delving headfirst into the world of alcohol ink. He likes to create layered, gradient, and blended images using different techniques, giving a magnificent visual effect. For him, creation is a process of self-exploration. Through alcohol ink creation, he can break free from constraints, express himself freely, and find inner peace.

Artist | Wu Jih-Chin

Artist's Profile: Wu Jih-Chin was born in Kaohsiung. Influenced by a parent who loved calligraphy, she began learning calligraphy at a young age. She holds a Ph.D. in Art from the University of East London and an MFA from the Academy of Art University in San Francisco. She has served as an assistant professor at the College of Humanities, National Taiwan University of Arts, teaching entirely in English at the Graduate Institute of Arts and Humanities. In 2015, she represented Taiwan at Artoll Kunstlabor, Germany, and was awarded the Best Invited Artist Award. She is skilled at integrating Eastern and Western painting aesthetics, combining the dot-and-line beauty of Eastern calligraphic lines with the bold color planes of the West, expressing her unique contemporary subconscious inner impressions.

Wu Jih-Chin's oil paintings have not only been featured in Hollywood film productions but are also widely collected by the Yosemite Museum, the Jose Museum of America, San Francisco International Airport, and the famous American Fox Television Company (FOX). Her work has garnered attention from private collectors and financial institutions in the UK, Germany, and the Netherlands. She is hailed as a representative figure among Taiwan's mid-career artists, with her unrestrained brushwork conveying profound insights into the present moment.
