DAMASCUS SERIES

A Taiwanese team designed and developed a new Damascus steel watch, created and launched by designer Hsieh Ta-Yu. Collaborating with a Taiwanese metal technology factory, they crafted a stunning 100-layer Damascus steel watch series, merging historical culture with modern technology.

Damascus steel, also known as "silk in steel," is a masterpiece of craftsmanship that combines performance with aesthetics. It represents the perfect metallurgical technique sought by ancient peoples and is a world heritage item, recognized as one of the most challenging metal forging techniques. Due to its extremely complex and time-consuming forging process, Damascus steel is a beautiful craft that blends historical culture with modern technology.

  • The Three Famous Blades of the Medieval World

In 12th-century Europe, crusaders made their first foray into West Asia. In Damascus, the capital of Syria, they encountered a group of soldiers whose swords could split a feather floating in the air. The sharpness of these blades made the soldiers invincible on the battlefield. Thus, the crusaders named these astonishing swords "Damascus steel," one of the world's three famous blades. With their immense power, sharpness, and magnificent patterns, they rose to prominence in the medieval game of power.

  • Ancient Perfection in Metallurgy

Damascus steel is renowned for its damage resistance, ductility, sharpenability, and distinctive pattern, also known as the Muhammad pattern. As centuries passed, the art of forging slowly died out. Today, countries around the world continue to experiment with various techniques, hoping to rediscover the unique strength and charm of Damascus steel.

  • Textures Drawn by Time

Due to the extremely complex and time-consuming process of forging Damascus steel, it was also known as the most difficult metalworking technique in the Middle Ages. Such a perfect blend of strength and flexibility, coupled with its unique texture and details, is like the annual rings of a tree, the waves of the sea, or the clouds in the sky. With the passage of time, it continuously layers and transforms, with each new pattern born at every moment showcasing the unique beauty and novelty of nature.

A Perfect Blend of Historic Craftsmanship and Modern Design

To fully showcase the texture and unique characteristics of Damascus steel, a deep-etching technique was applied to the surface, making the Damascus steel patterns more prominent with a three-dimensional effect. The design enlarged the crystal and minimized the dial, allowing the forged surface of the Damascus steel to be perfectly displayed within the crystal. Paired with a high-grade anti-glare sapphire crystal, an ultra-thin Japanese-made quartz movement, and a Swiss-made automatic mechanical movement, a crown sculpted into a unique shape was inserted. Finally, an Italian handmade genuine leather strap completes the watch. All these design choices were made to fully present the strength and beauty of Damascus steel.

  • Through continuous pressing, forging, and cutting of steel, we shape layers and showcase varying degrees and forms of texture changes. We have designed two series of Damascus steel watches: the quartz watch "Clouds" and the automatic mechanical watch "Mohammed."

STORY OF TIME

The patterns of history, the patterns of nature, the patterns of time, engraving your story.

Due to the numerous production limitations and high cost of Damascus steel, when used in complex watches, the price is often quite steep. Therefore, we constantly altered our design and manufacturing methods to allow this historically and culturally rich Damascus steel to be successfully produced within a controllable cost. To reproduce the lost techniques and patterns of Damascus steel, experienced metal artisans must combine their skills, wisdom, and focus to perfectly control the heat and create each unique pattern.

  • The patterns on Damascus steel are like human fingerprints; each watch possesses its own unique genetic makeup and distinctiveness, showcasing each individual's unique and profound taste and romance.

  • I believe a watch represents more than just a timepiece showing time, or a decorative accessory; it embodies a person's taste and attitude. And a watch with a story is best worn by a person with a story.
